Alex Weiss is the CEO of ClearSky. Mr. Weiss is also a Co-Founder and Managing Partner of ClearSky and a member of its Investment Committee. Prior to founding ClearSky, Mr. Weiss was Vice President and Chief Investment Officer for NextEra Energy, where he co-headed the company’s venture capital investment effort. In this role, Mr. Weiss shared responsibility for investment decisions and fund management for more than $10 billion of invested financial assets. Before joining NextEra Energy, Mr. Weiss was a Vice President at Morgan Stanley and a Managing Director at Smith Barney and Paine Webber. In these roles, he has over 20 years of experience working with private equity and venture capital funds. Mr. Weiss brings deep industry knowledge, having completed transactions across the investment life cycle in a range of industries, including extensive experience in investing, equity raising, high yield, mergers and acquisitions, leveraged recapitalizations, and restructurings. Mr. Weiss holds a B.A. in mathematics and economics from Boston University and an M.B.A. in finance from Columbia University. Mr. Weiss currently serves as a member of the board of directors of Altamira, ClimateTrade, Diamanti, EdgeQ, Fermata Energy, Fortress, Mainspring Energy, and Ubicquia. Mr. Weiss also serves as an advisory board member of Cresset Capital Management. Mr. Weiss was also formerly a member of the board of directors of CloudGenix (acquired by Palo Alto Networks), CyberGRX (acquired by ProcessUnity), Cylance (acquired by Blackberry), BHI Energy (acquired by Westinghouse), iControl (acquired by Alarm.com and Comcast), NEXTracker (acquired by Flextronics), Pike Group (acquired by Lindsay Goldberg), RedOwl (acquired by Forcepoint), Skout Cybersecurity (acquired by Barracuda Networks), Sentient Energy (acquired by Koch Engineered Solutions), Spruce Finance (acquired by HPS Investment Partners), Systems Control (acquired by Hubbell), T-Rex (acquired by Finsight), and Verengo (acquired by Crius). He was also formerly a board observer of Entic (acquired by Aquicore), and Silver Spring Networks (acquired by Itron).
